The teacher group representing more than 42,000 educators across Georgia today announced its strong endorsement of Sen. Jason Carter's campaign for governor. The Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) cited the chronic underfunding and dismantling of public education in Georgia in their endorsement."

I welcome this endorsement, and look forward to GAE's help to win this election and our partnership to rebuild our schools," Carter said. "Gov. Deal's administration has too often treated teachers as the problem, but we know they're part of the solution. Teachers work hard every day for our students in the classroom, and I'm excited to have them join this campaign to make the difference in this election.""This is personal for my family," Carter added. "Kate knows the challenges that teachers face every day in the classroom, and our two boys are in public school. I know their future depends on having good teachers who are supported with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom."

GAE will mobilize its statewide membership in support of Carter's campaign.

"The trend the current governor has overseen of a demoralizing and dismantling of our public education system in Georgia, needs to be reversed or there will be irreparable damage done to one of the great foundations of our state -- public education," said GAE President Dr. Sid Chapman. "We believe the next leader of our state government needs to see public education for what it means for our children as well as what it means for the health and welfare of our state and society. We believe that next leader should be Sen. Jason Carter."
